Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, died on Tuesday (17 March) at the age of 93. He had led the Georgian Orthodox Church since 1977, overseeing its revival and playing a central role in the country’s public life, particularly during the turbulent years following independence. His death leaves a significant vacuum, raising concerns about unity within both the Church and Georgian society.
