Демократия одержала верх в Стамбуле

В воскресенье вечером в Стамбуле можно было наблюдать сцены ликования, когда горожане праздновали победу кандидата от оппозиции Экрема Имамоглу на посту мэра.

Имамоглу был избран мэром впервые на муниципальных выборах, проведенных в марте по всей Турции, с небольшим перевесом в 13,000 голосов. Однако этот результат был аннулирован по настоянию правительства, которое заявило о нарушениях. В воскресенье Имамоглу победил во второй раз, однако на этот раз с огромным перевесом в 775,000 голосов больше, чем его оппонент, бывший премьер-министр Бинали Йылдырым. Это первый раз за 25 лет, когда мэр Стамбула не из правящей партии АК президента Реджеп Тайпа Эрдогана.

Победа Иммамоглу была названа победой демократии. Лидер основной оппозиционной силы, Республиканская народная партия (НРП) Кемаль Киличдароглу заявил, что победа кандидата его партии - это победа демократии. «Каждый, кто верит в демократию, сегодня гордится Турцией», - сказал он.
