Позже Патрушев отправится в Гюмри - второй по величине город Армении (бывший Ленинакан), чтобы проведать 102-ю российскую военную базу, и пограничный отряд ФСБ России, встретиться с российскими военнослужащими и ознакомиться с их повседневной жизнью и условиями военной службы. Военная база и граница Гюмри охраняются отрядами военных, развернутыми здесь, в соответствии с межгосударственными договорами. Руководство Армении считает пребывание российской военной базы, с персоналом около 5000 человек, и российских пограничников в республике в качестве важного компонента национальной безопасности.
