Первый долг почтить память погибших

Первая мировая война была одним из самых смертоносных конфликтов в истории. Это был первый конфликт, в котором участвовали большинство стран мира с использованием современных разрушительных вооружений. Погибли более 9 миллионов солдат и 7 миллионов гражданских лиц. Итоги первой мировой войны изменили мировой порядок, который существовал в начале 20-го века.

В эти выходные мы сосредотачиваемся на событиях, которые произошли сто лет назад в последние дни существования Османской империи, когда она вступила в войну на стороне Центральных держав - Германии и Австро-Венгерской Империи против Французской, Британской и Российской империй. Два очень разных, но связанных эпизода человеческой трагедии, которые произошли на ранних стадиях Первой мировой войны, годовщины которые отмечают в эти дни.

Геноцид, или просто зверства?

В Армению по приглашению армянского политического и религиозного руководства прибудут гости совсего мира для того, чтобы воздать должное сотням тысяч армян, погибших из-за злодеяний, голода и истощения в руках османских правителей. Масштаб и серьезность тех зверств в наши дни широко признается, и даже были в то время хорошо задокументированы. Их отрицание - сыпать соль на рану. Армяне, и все больше и больше многих других характеризуют эти массовые убийства как геноцид - попытка истребить всю их нацию. Не все подписываются под этой терминологией, в том числе и сама Турция. Другие говорят, что, поскольку термин геноцид исходит из документов, которые были подготовлены спустя тридцать лет после 1915 года, то он не не может быть использован в контексте Армении, независимо от тяжести совершенных преступлений.

К сожалению, эти обсуждения в последние годы, в частности, в последние месяцы, были сильно политизированы. Те, кто использует термин геноцид с гуманитарной точки зрения, не использовать этот термин по отношению к армянам в 1915 году, допускают серьезное упущение. Для тех же, кто смотрит на аргументы с юридической точки зрения, вопрос более сложный.

В этот день эти споры должны быть отложены, даже пусть и на мгновение. Давайте вспомним и почтим тех, кто погиб и пострадал в этом страшном эпизоде ​​мировой истории.

Высадка в Галлиполи или Битва Чанаккале

Как показали события развернувшиеся в Восточной Анатолии в 1915 году, на западном берегу Османской империи начала разворачиваться еще одна трагедия. Союзные войска высадились на полуострове Галлиполи дав начало одной из самых кровавых битв Первой мировой войны, в которой десять тысяч молодых ребят в самом расцвете своих лет отдали свои жизни. Были убиты турки, которые защищали свою страну, также другие, кто являлся частью Османской армии, также британские и французские солдаты, и солдаты из далеких колоний - из Австралии и Новой Зеландии; из Индии и других имперских владений.

Турция пригласила лидеров со всего мира на церемонию почтения памяти погибших, такие же церемонии состоятся во многих странах. Этот эпизод войны самый жестокий и самый кровавый, память о котором жива и в сознании многих народов. Здесь тоже можно долго спорить о политике: кто прав, а кто виноват. Но не сегодня. Эти выходные должны быть посвящены тем, кто погиб тогда с какой бы стороны он не был.

''Coalition of the Willing'' meets in Kyiv to restate its support for Ukraine

The ''Coalition of the  Willing''  of thirty five countries, has renewed its support of Ukriane, at a meeting in Kyiv, held on Ukraine's national day on 24 August, under the chairmanship of British Prime Minister,A ndy Burnham. Burnham has promised to keep up the pressure on Russia despite Moscow's "outrageous threats", on his first official visit to Ukraine as UK prime minister. Burnham met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and chaired his first meeting of the "coalition of the willing", set up by the UK and France under his predecessor Sir Keir Starmer. He said the coalition was "doing everything we can" while urging the US Congress to "ratchet up" economic pressure on Russia. The government has agreed to hand over blueprints for British-made components for the Scalp missile, a French version of the UK's Storm Shadow cruise missile - allowing Ukraine to produce the long-range weapon domestically. During the meeting with France and Ukraine, Burnham said allies were doing "everything we can" to "dig into our own stocks and help others dig into their stocks" of air defences to protect Ukraine. "This is the moment to keep up the pressure on Russia, the moment to squeeze their ability to fund this illegal war," Burnham said, praising the "strength" of the Ukrainian people. "Ukraine has been Europe's protector, not a drain on our security but the front line in keeping Europe safe." It comes after Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov criticised the UK's decision to share the missile blueprints. Peskov said it prevented "even the slightest progress" towards achieving peace. He told reporters on Monday that the Russian military was already gathering data to locate any missile production sites to destroy them. "Britain is involved in this war on the side of the Kyiv regime. Britain methodically and regularly adds fuel to the fire," he added. In response, Burnham said: "Who started the fire? That's the question, isn't it?" He added the issue of missile interceptors would be the main topic at the coalition of the willing meeting. Burnham chaired his first meeting of the "coalition of the willing" in Kyiv Burnham has been reaffirming the UK's backing for Kyiv in the wake of escalating Russian strikes on Ukraine in recent weeks - including one on a shopping centre on Friday that killed at least 16 people. In a joint statement after the meeting, Burnham and co-chairs French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said the group would aim to strength Kyiv's air defences "as a matter or urgent priority". They also condemned Moscow's "systemic and escalating strikes against Ukraine's cities, critical infrastructure and civilians" and pledged to "constrain Russia's war chest through sanctions and actions against the "shadow fleet". Last September he made history by being the first Azerbaijani civil society activist to visit Armenia after the 44 day war, and the start of the peace process. Speaking about this visit Murad Muradov said: "My experience was largely positive. My negative expectations luckily didn’t play out. The discussions were respectful, the panel format bringing together experts from Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey was particularly valuable during the NATO Rose-Roth Seminar in Yerevan, and media coverage, while varied in tone, remained largely constructive. Some media outlets though attempted to represent me as more of a government mouthpiece than an independent expert, which was totally misleading.  Overall, I see these initiatives as important steps in rebuilding trust and normalising professional engagement. The fact that soon a larger Azerbaijani civil society visits to Armenia followed, reinforces the sense that this process is moving in the right direction."
