Президент Франции примет участие в траурной церемонии памяти жертв Геноцида армян

24 апреля президент Франции Николя Саркози решил в первый раз принять участие в траурной церемонии, посвященной жертвам Геноциду армян.

Как сообщают французские СМИ, Саркози посетит парк Еревана в Париже и возложит венок к памятнику Комитасу в память 97-ой годовщины Геноцида армян. Кроме того, ожидается выступление Саркози возле памятника.

Отметим, что Франция признала Геноцид в 2001 году. 12 октября 2006 года Национальное Собрание Франции 106 голосами "за" и 19 - "против" одобрило законопроект об уголовной ответственности за отрицание Геноцида армян. Тогда кандидат в президенты Николя Саркози пообещал в случае избрания посодействовать принятию законопроекта. В мае 2007 года Саркози стал президентом, а 4 мая 2008 года Сенат Франции отклонил законопроект о криминализации отрицания Геноцида армян, принятый Национальным собранием в 2006 году. Против законопроекта проголосовали 196 сенаторов, а за - 74.

Осенью 2011 года Саркози находясь в Ереване, предупредил, что если Турция сама не признает Геноцид армян, то Франция примет закон о криминализации его отрицания. 23 января 2012 года законопроект, предусматривающий за отрицание Геноцида армян 1 год лишения свободы или штраф в размере 45000 евро, был принят в Сенате. После чего протурецкие сенаторы обратились в Конституционный совет, который решил, что законопроект не соответствует французской конституции. В ответ на что президент Саркози поручил Сенату разработать новый аналогичный законопроект.

Dozens participate in new Armenia-Azerbaijan dialogue process as societies prepare for the signing of historic peace agreement

The governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan have recently agreed the text of a historic peace agreement that ends years of animosity and warfare. The agreement is expected to be signed soon. LINKS Europe, which has a long history of engagement with the process of peace in the region, recently launched a new Armenia-Azerbaijan dialogue format in the framework of the European Union's EU4Peace initiative. In the last two weeks dozens of Armenians and Azerbaijanis, including academics, students, civil society activists, journalists and other professionals, many of them young, were involved. The work is organised in five thematic groups focusing on peace and security, connectivity, environment, governance and gender and equality and in phase 2 of the project, which has just ended, around fifty participants took part in in-person and online meetings, and more than twenty others were involved indirectly. The Chairpersons of the five thematic groups met in Vilnius, 3-6 July to launch the third phase of the program. The five thematic groups are now working on separate reports, which are expected to be finished in November and presented to the two governments and other stakeholders. The reports will outline a vision, up to 2040.
