The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Mohammad Ishaq Dar signed a joint communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Pakistan.
The signing ceremony took place within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit held in the Chinese city of Tianjin.
The governments of the two countries strive to develop friendly relations in accordance with the UN Charter, including the principles of mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-aggression, non-interference in each other's internal affairs, equality, mutual benefit and peaceful coexistence.
The governments of Armenia and Pakistan have agreed to exchange Representatives and provide each other with the necessary assistance in order to establish diplomatic relations on the basis of reciprocity in accordance with the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and customary international practice.
After Armenia regained its independence when the Soviet Union was dissolved Pakistan was one of the few countries not to establish diplomatic relations. Pakistan supported Azerbaijan in the 2020 war.
