Israel is restricting Gazans' freedom of movement in the southern Gaza Strip by creating a new security corridor in Khan Younis, Gaza's second-largest city. The 15-kilometre-long Magen Oz corridor divides the city into two parts from east to west.
According to the army, the corridor is necessary in order to put more pressure on the Khan Younis brigade of Hamas. In practice, this means that Israel will exercise even greater control over the area, making it even more difficult for Gazans to flee violence and fighting.
