В Госдепе США не уверены в том, имеет ли смысл организовывать встречу по нагорно-карабахскому урегулированию на фоне инцидента с экстрадициейСафарова.

Согласно материалам Государственного департамента США, пресс-секретарь Госдепа, отвечая на вопросы журналистов на саммите стран Азиатско- Тихоокеанского региона, отметил: "Как вы знаете, у нас был инцидент, из-за которого мы были довольно озабочены, когда азербайджанец, который отбывал срок в Венгрии,был освобожден".

По его словам, в рамках Генеральной Ассамблеи ООН США, как партнеры по Минской группе ОБСЕ, стараются организовать встречу по нагорно-карабахскому вопросу:" Таким образом, вопрос заключается в том, имеет ли смысл делать это сейчас, можем ли мы оказать поддержку в снижении напряженности в отношениях между Арменией и Азербайджаном?".

На вопрос о том, "будет ли это что-то вроде обычной встречи в рамках Минской группы ОБСЕ ?", официальный представитель Госдепартамента ответил: "Да, но никаких прорывов не ожидается."  Напомним, что осужденный за убийство армянского офицера в Венгрии на пожизненный срок, азербайджанский офицер Рамиль Сафаров 31 августа был экстрадирован на родину, помилован и повышен в звании. В связи с этим Армения прекратила дипломатические отношения с Венгрией.
