Спецпред ЕС:

Европейский Союз имеет соответствующие механизмы и большой опыт в деле содействия урегулированию конфликтов, и желает оказать поддержку Армении и Азербайджану в деле мирного урегулирования Нагорно-карабахского конфликта. Об этом заявил специальный представитель ЕС по вопросам Южного Кавказа и кризиса в Грузии Филипп Лефорт в ходе совместного брифинга с главой армянского МИД Эдвардом Налбандяном.

По его словам, Армения и Азербайджан являются партнерами ЕС в достижении мира в регионе, и самым коротким путем к ассоциации с ЕС для стран региона является урегулирование конфликтов. “Переговорный процесс по урегулированию нагорно-карабахского конфликта – это основная миссия Минской группы ОБСЕ, ЕС готов оказывать дополнительное содействие в этом процессе”, - отметил дипломат. Он добавил, что у южно-кавказского региона имеется большой экономический и культурный потенциал, который можно развивать в полной мере тогда, когда в регионе установится мир.

Лефорт отметил также, что Южный Кавказ играет роль “сухопутного моста” между Европой и странами Азиатско-Тихоокеанского региона, он является не только транзитным поясом, но и поясом уникального культурного разнообразия. «ЕС считает Южный Кавказ интересным регион для сотрудничества также с точки зрения имплементации различных совместных проектов”, - отметил европейский дипломат.

The talks come the day after both attended a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in the nearby Chinese city of Tianjin, and the day before a grand Chinese military parade in Beijing to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
