The presidents of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan did not leave Turkmenistan empty handed, after their visit to the country earlier this week.

On August 22, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev watched the performance of the "Akhalteke" horses and the national "Galkynysh" equestrian group in the city of Turkmenbashi.

In Armenia tech education starts early. In a typical three-storey state school in the suburbs of Yerevan, the Armenian capital, nine-year old Slavik is demonstrating his invention, a box with three LED lights. Next to him, 14-year-old Eric and Narek are showing their smart greenhouse model that monitors temperature and controls fans automatically through a mobile app. Other children are enthusiastically showcasing their inventions: games, robots, apps and smart home projects. Eleven-year-old Arakel is holding his cardboard model of a house with a retractable clothesline.

Scammers based in Georgia conned savers out of $35m using fake celebrity ads

An organised network operating from Georgia has scammed thousands of savers from the UK, Europe and Canada out of $35m after they fell for fake celebrity adverts on Facebook and Google. According to a report in The Guardian, Deepfake videos and fictional news reports featuring the money expert Martin Lewis, the radio DJ Zoe Ball and the adventurer Ben Fogle were used to promote fraudulent cryptocurrency and other investment schemes. The scammers are understood to have still been contacting victims in recent weeks.

New research finds environmental degradation across the South Caucasus

A new study entitled "Biodiversity, Conservation and Sustainability in Asia" by Münir Öztürk, Volkan Altay and Recep Efe has found that environmental degradation across the South Caucasus is affecting public health, water and food security. The three countries of the South Caucasus - Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia - have environmental legislative frameworks but lack effective practices to promote sustainable growth. The main areas of concern identified by the research are soil erosion, deforestation and poorly planned urbanisation.

In a telephone conversation with his Israeli counterpart Gallant, US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin promised that an aircraft carrier already on its way to the Middle East would be speeded up. The US is also sending a nuclear submarine with guided missiles - the USS Georgia - to the region. The International Olympic Committee will hold its first-ever Olympic E-Sports Games in Saudi Arabia in 2025. The e-sports event will be a regular one, unlike previous trials.

According to the International Olympic Committee, the e-sports event will be held in Saudi Arabia because the country has "a lot of expertise in e-sports". The organisation promises that "Olympic values" will continue to be respected, "particularly in relation to the games on the programme, promoting gender equality and engaging with young audiences".
