23 October: The President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan has started an official visit to Moscow during which he is expected to meet President Medvedev. Discussions of the Karabakh conflict settlement process are on the agenda.
Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia were amongst the countries that sent their condolences, as well as offers of assistance to the Turkish authorities. Similar offers were made by European countries and NATO.
22 October: The OSCE Minsk Group co-Chair have arrived in Baku after having crossed the line of contact seperating Armenian and Azerbaijani forces. The diplomats representing France, the US and Russia will meet Azerbaijani leaders on Monday. (agencies)
After nine rounds of voting in the General Assembly the election of a non permanent member of the UN Security Council was inconclusive. Despite getting 113 votes, against Slovenia's 77, Azerbaijan fell short of the two thirds majority required. The voting resumes on Monday.
